Opportunity Shops

mecwacare has five op shops located in Malvern, Malvern East, Windsor and Ballan. Staffed largely by our generous volunteers, the shops offer an eclectic range of preloved clothes, books, and bric-a-brac.

Each shop has its own unique personality, reflecting its location, staff, and volunteers. From designer label clothes to everyday household items, you are sure to find a bargain when you visit a mecwacare op shop.

All proceeds from the sale of donated goods in our shops go straight back into the local community, supporting programs and services for the elderly as well as people with a disability.

Grab a bargain

Our five opportunity shops in Malvern, East Malvern, Windsor and Ballan provide the community with an enjoyable bargain shopping experience. Staffed by a friendly team of volunteers, the stores offer secondhand, low-cost quality goods including clothing, kitchenware, furniture, books, and bric-a-brac.

Each store has its own unique personality reflecting its location. It’s not uncommon to find a designer label dress, shoes or handbag, or an antique or collectible at a fraction of the price.

All funds raised through the sale of goods in our stores stay in the local community, supporting programs and activities for the elderly and people living with a disability.

Recycled clothing, books, bric-a-brac, and other preloved items at our opportunity shops has many environmental benefits, including reducing landfill and greenhouse gas emissions. Promoting the reuse of goods and offering an alternative to a throwaway culture helps to create a sustainable future for everyone.

Public transport is available within a short walk of each store, making them convenient to visit.

How to donate goods

mecwacare’s opportunity shops welcome donations of saleable goods, including clothing, jewellery, bric-a-brac, kitchenware, and books.

Donations can be made directly to the shops during opening hours, or to arrange collection, phone our East Malvern Store on 03 8573 4670, or our Ballan store on 0438 309 357.

“Would I buy that?”

We are incredibly grateful for every donation we receive on a daily basis. Here’s the deal: We want your gently used clothing, accessories, homewares and other unique pieces in excellent condition – things you’d be proud to wear or display again, or gift to a loved one. Before donating, simply ask yourself, “Would I buy that?” If the answer is “no”, then it’s probably not worth donating.

By donating high-quality items, you’re not just decluttering your space, you’re helping support vulnerable people in your community. Your donations contribute to our community programs and make affordable, quality items accessible to all.

Donating vs. Dumping

Dumping unwanted items irresponsibly can have detrimental effects on the environment and communities. Items left outside our op shops after hours are vulnerable to damage and theft, and the cost of disposal falls on our charity. Instead of dumping, please donate your items during our opening hours or consider alternative methods of responsible disposal.

Be part of the team

We are always looking for volunteers to help in our shops.

We welcome people from all demographics and backgrounds to be part of a fun, friendly, and supportive team, and to play an active role in helping your community. Serve customers, assist with shop displays, or sort and price donations; there’s something for everyone and it is an opportunity to learn new skills and gain retail experience. Training is provided.
