FAQs

Can I still access services if I’m not eligible for a government subsidy?

All mecwacare home nursing and care services, and disability services can be purchased privately. Services include respite and overnight care, tailored care to support recovery from surgery or illness, transport, assistance with medication, meal preparation, shopping, personal care, home maintenance and domestic assistance.

Can I access services while waiting for a government-subsidised Home Care Package?

Yes, you can access services privately to receive care while waiting for a Home Care Package. Another reason for considering private care is to ‘top up’ when you are receiving a government-funded service that does not completely support the lifestyle you want, or the level of care you need. Please contact mecwacare’s team on 8573 4980, or email intake@mecwacare.org.au to check your eligibility and service options.

Will the people who come to my home deliver the same quality of care as government-funded services?

All mecwacare services, regardless of whether they are funded or paid for privately, are delivered only by fully trained direct care workers and nurses, all with relevant police and professional registrations checked. All staff receive regular training updates and are supported to deliver the best client care.

How much does it cost to access mecwacare home care services?

The fee is usually set on an hourly rate and will be discussed and agreed before the service commences. A fee schedule will be attached to your service agreement with mecwacare.

Our team can provide you with a copy of mecwacare’s fee schedule.

What happens if I won’t be available at the time my service is booked?

We understand that life does not always go to plan and that you may have appointments and unexpected commitments. Please let us know at least 24 hours before the booked time so that we can reschedule your services.

If you do not answer your door at the time of a scheduled visit or scheduled collection/appointment, we will:

  • Attempt to call you
  • If no response, contact your primary contacts, as relevant
  • If still no response, our office may call the police and request a welfare check.
