mecwacare appoints SJ Higgins Group as new construction partner to deliver $30 million Ballan aged care redevelopment project

The establishment and setup of the Ballan construction site will begin in the week commencing Monday 25 November. This is an extremely exciting time for mecwacare’s Ballan team as well as the organisation’s wider community.

“The team at SJ Higgins Group is thrilled to be starting this new project and partnership, and we are delighted to be able to bring our Ballan aged care upgrade project to life,” said James Cramond, mecwacare’s Executive General Manager – Strategy and Transformation.

Located in the township of Ballan, less than 100km from both Geelong and Melbourne, the site is on the banks of the picturesque Werribee River.

Set for completion in mid-2026, the new $30 million facility will be home to 60 residents, with a focus on comfort and social engagement. A variety of luxurious shared spaces draw inspiration from the site’s beautiful surroundings.

Each bedroom features a private ensuite, while three spacious courtyards, two outdoor dining areas and a deck exude country hospitality and a closeness to nature.

With new features including a cinema, hair salon, library, cafe, and elegant lounge and dining areas, residents of the new Ballan aged care facility will enjoy the highest standard of living in a relaxing, engaging, supportive environment.

Following the festive season shutdown, full construction works are set to begin in early January.
