mecwacare is committed to good governance and the responsible and ethical operation of our business.

This page sets out our governance charters, policies and codes of conduct that form the framework for ensuring good governance at mecwacare.

mecwacare Board and committees - governance and policies

The mecwacare Board monitors the operational and financial position and performance of the organisation and oversees its business strategy including approving the strategic objectives, plans and budgets. The Board is committed to maximising performance to deliver quality care and services to our residents and clients. In conducting mecwacare operations, the Board seeks to ensure that mecwacare is well managed to meet our quality of care objectives for our residents and clients, stakeholder interests are protected and that mecwacare its Directors, officers and personnel operate in an appropriate environment of corporate governance.

The Board delegates the responsibility for the day-to-day management of mecwacare to the Chief Executive Officer, but retains responsibility for the overall strategy, governance and performance of mecwacare.

Code of Conduct

mecwacare has a formal Code of Conduct (the Code) which reflects our organisational values of care, honesty, accountability and respect. The Code outlines how mecwacare expects its representatives to behave and conduct business in the workplace and includes legal compliance and guidelines on appropriate ethical standards.

All mecwacare Employees, Contractors, Volunteers, Senior Executives and Directors are expected to comply with the Code of Conduct.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement

mecwacare welcomes feedback from all members of our organisation and community, inclusive of residents, clients, and their families or representatives. This feedback is important to us and helps us to understand what we are doing well and where we need to improve.

We offer a range of pathways for providing feedback to mecwacare about the quality of our care and services, these include providing feedback directly to our Leaders or via our online Feedback form. Consumer complaints regarding service provision standards can be reported via email at: complaints@mecwacare.org.au

Reflective of our Feedback and Complaints Policy and Procedure, all feedback, concerns or complaints will be addressed in an ethical, timely and confidential manner.

Whistleblower reporting

Engendering a culture where concerns related to unethical behaviour, improper and/or illegal conduct, can be reported freely and without fear of detriment, is fundamental to who we are and supporting everyone to Speak Up.

In accordance with mecwacare’s Whistleblower Policy and Procedure, eligible Whistleblowers are encouraged to report unlawful or unethical conduct to our Whistleblower Protection Officer (Executive General Manager – People, Culture and Safety) via the following pathways:

In circumstances where an external reporting pathway or anonymity is preferred, Whistleblower related disclosures can be raised with our third-party service provider Stopline in the following ways:

Stopline act as the conduit between disclosers and mecwacare, protecting anonymity and providing reports via our Whistleblower Protection Officer. Information shared with Stopline is dealt with confidentially, unless the law or regulatory authority requires it to be disclosed.

The mecwacare Board receives Whistleblower program reports on a six-monthly basis and relevant cases are escalated more frequently as required.

Modern Slavery

mecwacare are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in our business relationships. This includes taking steps to ensure that there is no slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory human labour, human trafficking, child labour and deceptive recruiting for labour (collectively known as “Modern Slavery”) in any part of our business or in our supply chain. mecwacare has expects our service providers and contractors to adhere to this code of conduct.
